Upwind Technology announced UTOS(R),
a new Energy-Saving Real-Time Operating System for embedded system

Honolulu, Hawaii, U.S.A., May 12, 2008 - Upwind Technology, Inc., the leader in embedded GNU software development technology, today announced UTOS - a new Real-Time Operating System(RTOS). UTOS is an abbreviation of Upwind Technology Operating System. Architected as an Set-based RTOS, UTOS is highly customizable and adaptable, and can be easily configured to meet exacting application-specific requirements. UTOS has many features, including its set-based architecture, energy-saving, very small footprint and fast response.
At present, Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd. and many maker are evaluating UTOS.

"We can't stop cutting down costs. We have to re-use old software and save memory in embedded software development. So more optimization is needed. And, it's realized by UTOS. Because, UTOS has very small footprint and fast response. We expect UTOS to succeed.", said Hideki Sugiura, Manager of Device Controller Platform Development Group, Controller Development Group at Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd.

"UTOS is a completely new RTOS for embedded system. The current situation of global environment and our customers needs an energy-saving RTOS like UTOS. We developed Set-based architecture. It enables very small footprint and energy-saving.And our customers can reduce the cost for ROM/RAM resources. In the near future,UTOS will be adopt by automotive parts, mobile phone, consumer electronics and so on.", said Kenichi Nakamura, president of Upwind Technology, Inc.

Features of UTOS

UTOS reduced unnecessary function and machine instruction. UTOS doesn't use lots of ROM/RAM resources and electric power.

Very Small Footprint
The minimal footprint of UTOS is under 300Byte ROM and 100Byte RAM on Microcontrollers.

Fast Response
UTOS is implemented in assembly language. It enables a highly optimized context switch.
